Friday night's scramble winner!

Hey Everyone,
A week ago today I had a 90  minute scramble on my blog and it all went pretty well,  there was 3 awesome entries, (see here) unfortunatley during the process I was un-able to finish due to a natural disaster in the back yard (see post here) but enough of that, its time to announce our winner!!!!
Ladies Please Welcome Paula!!!!!!!!!
To introduce her I asked a few questions to get to know her a little more, her answers are in italics.

1.Tell us(the readers and I) a little bit about you.
Hmm ok I'm a S.A.H.M. to two pint-sized terrorists, er I meant girls, a long suffering (if you ask him) dh & am owned by two goldfish & one strange cat. I live on the Sunshine Coast (which isn't so sunny of late) in South East Queensland Australia. Where I've lived for the past 22 years (yikes has it been that long!). I have a love for handmade crafts, of any kind & dabble in a few different hobbies.
I've heard of this strange cat before, I hope she isn't still bringing deady animals to your door!
2. When did you first start cardmaking/scrapbooking?
I started scrapping first & like most Mums when Em was born, 5 years ago. It was a kind of therapy for me as I was suffering PND (Post Natal Depression) . I then fell into cardmaking as a way to use up all those "leftovers" scraps of paper & embelies about a year later. So as you can guess I'm kinda swamped with scraps at the moment.
Sorry to hear about that Paula, but am sure happy to have you in the "card making communities"
3. Which do you prefer digital images or the good ol' rubber stamp
Well if you had of asked me this question about four months ago, I'd definately say rubber any day of the week. But since taking the plunge into the world of digital images, it's a toss up. I still mostly work with rubber stamps, but do like use some digital images from time to time. I think that to be honest I'm always going to like using the rubber stamps more, but wont rule out a digi image or two.
Well said and I totally agree!
4. how do you go about making most of your cards? do you browse blogs and flickr for inspiration,
use sketches, or come up with most of your own ideas?
I use a combination of all of the above. I tend to use a lot of sketch based challenges as my starting point, then see what happens after that. Sometimes I follow the sketch faithfully & then other times it's like what the? as my card looks nothing like the sketch. I also use other cards as my starting points as there maybe something I like about them.
5. Do you have another favorite hobby?
Actually I have two, my first love is patchwork & quilting. So I use to make a few quilts (pre kids), now a days I am making "Mermaid Tails" (for Em's party). I also knit (badly) & am trying to knit my self a cardigan at the moment. I'm also making a scarf out of feathers "wool".
If you can knit it can't be badly, I can barely crohquet!
You can find Paula's wonderful cards in her flickr photstream or read her stories and crafty input on her personal blog and she is also a fellow Moderator/hostess, for the Die cut Diva's blog and flickr group!
Thanks for playing along Paula it was fun!

Oh what a weekend!

Hey everyone I'm back....the tornado really took a toll on our neighborhood this past Friday.  It was such a strange feeling for me, I wasn't really scared, but the thought kept passing through my mind how it just takes a second, and your whole life can change, as we listened to the tornado rip through our backyard. After the tornado passed we finally emerged from the basement, of course all the power was out so everything was pitch black, and all you could see was silhouettes of fallen tree's and power lines. That was the longest night I have ever known, there was the constant noise of generators, and people and cars going by. By morning everyone was out surveying the damages, which compared to some our's was nothing, we lost a few shingles and several large trees were completely uprooted in our yard, including power lines and poles, but just up the street, houses were knocked completely flat, and roofs were all over the place. And Lambert International Airport actually had to close down, for a time,  due to severe damage, (you could probably google it)Thank God no one in the disaster area were seriously hurt, there was only a few minor injuries including myself.... during the rush to the basement a heavy mental flashlight fell and broke my toe, that had been previously broken (many times before), but all is well and we have been spending the weekend cleaning it all up and helping each other out.
Here is a short clip I put together with some of the pictures I took.

I hope you all had a great Easter and are enjoying the weather 8~)

Hero Arts Scramble Challenge #14

Today was the 14th, 90 minute scramble challenge in the Hero Arts flickr group, hosted by our Hero hostess Sally Sherfield. For her challenge she gave 2 options; 1. making a wedding/celebrate card...or 2. use the colors red white and blue.
Originally I just did the first one but while in the middle of typing this post I stopped to make the second, really fast. 8~)
This challenge gave me the perfect opportunity to make my Grandparents 50th Anniversary coming up hopefully she doesn't find this card on flickr I found out she goes there to look at my cards occasionally.

This second card was just for fun and not to ruin my reputation for making more then one card per challenge. ; )

Thanks for stopping by!

Lilly pads Dimensional Challenge

Sing unto him a new song, a photo by Hannah Nicole F on Flickr.
If you follow Lilly Pad Cards blog, you will remember the post about 2 weeks ago, about the Globecraft Memories frames. Well, I bought 2 right away for this weeks challenge, and absolutely love them!( they are cheap too!) I've been planning all week what I'd do with them, and decided this first one here would be a Mothers day gift, for My Grandma who loves music and plays piano.
So I searched all the bible verses with the word sing in it till I found the right one, to put in the frame.

The Bible Verse reads:
Sing unto him
a new song;
play skillfully
with a loud noise.
For the word of the
Lord is right;
and all his works are
done in truth.
          Psalms 33: 3, 4

Altering the globe frame:
The frame is made up of 3 layers of chipboared, a plastic (non yellowing) globe, the backing and the stand.
I took the top and bottom layers and painted them with my Ranger pearl paint dabber, originally I painted it across by smearing it but I found the dabbing effect much more textured, giving a marbled feel to it. I set them aside to dry (about a half hour), the middle layer I traced on a piece of white cardstock, and cut out, then distressed with dusty concord distress ink. and stamped the music background on it in black, and covered the chipboard with it.  I set those aside and typed up my verse and printed it on white cardstock.  Using the bottom layer as a template, I traced around the verse and cut it out. stamping the clef with pumice stone distress ink over the verse. The embellishments were made using my tattered florals bigz die and distressed with dusty concord.

The Assembly: (Lots of adhering8~)
Adhere the dome to the largest frame (the bottom layer), and adhere the others layers on top in size order putting the smallest on top.  Adhere the decorated piece/picture to the chipboard base, and adhere the layers and dome to it. Ta-daa!

Materials:
Globecraft Memories dome frame, Ranger pearl paint dabber Tim Holtz tattered florals die
dusty concord, peeled paint, and pumice stone distress ink. Hero Arts CG279 Musical clef and,  CG222 Music
background.

Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend!

Introducing The Scent of Heaven

Hello all.

Today I'd like to share with you a very interesting experience I had this afternoon..... A friend of my Mother's, recently started her own business making perfumes out of essential oils, based on great women of the bible and scriptures she has read.  Now to begin with I am not a fan of perfumes since the strong smells give me nausiating headaches, but a while back Carol Hodge the founder of The Scent of Heaven, brought them by one day to show Mom, and the smells were so fresh and pretty.  So Today I asked to come over and pick one of bottles from her Women Arise Series, and she offered to help me make my own based on the smells that best suited my taste.  So we (my Mom and I) smelled many of her countless essential oils, and took a little test that told her a little bit more what smells I enjoyed most. Till finally we had all our choices to mix together before us. It's amazing how one little drop can change the whole smell completly! According to my test I liked the smell of woods and citrus the best, and indeed it was a lovely smell.  So she gave me one of her Beautiful handpainted bottles and told me to name it, and each time I smell it, I think of all the lovely smells when I take a walk in the woods, Henceforth the name......................................
A Walk in the Woods!

I Highly recommend The Scent of Heaven, (it would make a great gift for Mothers day). And here is a really cool idea for us crafters, you can also use it to make scented cards or stationary!

I hope you go check out here website (linked in this post), her hand painting is gorgeous, and the scents she creates are so sweet.

Thanks for stopping by!

Lilly pad color throw down, final card.

I am so happy! As of today I'm the proud owner of the Life of the party birthday CL514,
and I couldn't wait to use it, so made my final card for Kathy's Color throw down, this time the color choice wasn't so hard, and I had so much fun.

This card will be for my Dad's birthday coming up on the 14th.

Details: I stamped the icecream cone and banner on seperated pieces of paper, cut them out and set them aside...I then restamped the same images on the kraft, in the position I wanted them and colored in the cone with some prismacolor pencils. Next I adhered the pieces I previously cut to my craft panel and stamped my sentiment. Then I adhered the kraft (5 x 3 3/4) to the blue panel (5 1/4 x 4) and the blue panel to my white card base. After my card was put together I added the three blue gems for the final touch and finsh of the color scheme.

Materials:
Neenah solar white, kraft, yellow and blue cardstock; Memories black dye, and walnut stain distress ink; Prisma color pencils, CL514 Life of the party birthday (Hero Arts).

Thanks for stopping by and leaving such nice comments!
Also I'm going to request again that you take a moment to read an earlier post HERE, and give me your opinion.

Just a card to share....

Heya' all,

Its late Friday night and I finally had some time to make a card, woooohoo!
I am entering this card for Kathy's color throw down over at Lilly pad cards and their first challenge ever! and while I was at it I decided to do some stamp layering/paper piecing for Hero Arts Challenge this for this month.

Kathy's Challenge was to use this color scheme

I can't believe how hard it can be to use these colors together, Ouch! talk about late night brainstorming...........Oh I'm sorry here is my result; Ta-Da!

For this card; I distressed my top layer with Mustard seed, and stamped my image in peeled paint,
and again on a two scrap pieces distressing the leaves with peeled paint and the flower with spiced maralade. Then I cut out each leaves and the flower and set it aside. I adhered my distressed panel to another layer of blue cardstock. For the base I just stamped the whole thing with an old letter writing stamp in Hero hues cerulean chalk ink, adhered all my panels and added my paper pieces with pop  dots for dimension.

Material list: Hero hues cerulean chalk ink, mustard seed distress ink, peeled paint distress ink, spiced marmalade distress ink, Memories dye black ink, Hero hues Cerulean cardstock, Solar neenah white cardstock, blue cardstock, Old letter writing S4878, Special moments CG108.

Requesting advice

Hello Readers,
I have a couple questions for you;

As some of you know I'd like to do scramble challenges here on my blog, but....my question is how do I go about it?  I know how frantic it can get trying to upload your cards in time, so would it be to hard to upload it to flickr then link it here on mr linky? and like I said before there would be no prizes, but the "winner" would be put in the spotlight, and recognized.

My other question is for you designers out there;  I'm looking to become a graphic designer and don't know where to begin, basically I'm looking for an online course, or class I could take and get a degree, for a decent price. Could you recomend a good place? if you are not a designer but know one who is please send them the link to this post.

Thanks in advance for your input.
Have a great day!

P.S. Forgive me for not commenting often on your blogs, I will try my best to do so in the future.

Gecko Card

Hey all, it's me again....Yes I have actually been blogging daily! hoping I can keep that up.

Today I made a really fun card to celebrate the new blog Lilly pad cards! if you haven't been, today was the "grand opening"  and once you hop in  you wont want to get back out.

I cut out the Geico Gecko from an advertisement, and adhered him  and my hand cut banner to my card base with pop dots after stamping the background with the flourish.

The neat thing about sharing cards over the internet is, in  a way you now have 2 cards; 1 to give virtually and the other to give a friend. which is what I'm doing with this, so this card will be put away safely and handed to my older brother on his birthday.

Materials; Hero hues cerulean paper,
Neenah solar white cardstock scraps (for banner),
Hero hues cerulean ink, CG119 flourish background, CL139 birthday messages.

As Always Thanks for stopping by!
